Luna Keller and Joe Pope release introspective duet

An ode to what could have been, Someone Else is the new duet from York Calling favourite Luna Keller and American singer-songwriter Joe Pope.

By Graeme Smith

Opening slow and mournful, Pope takes the first verse, delivering lyrics that are full of self-doubt and introspection. Keller’s vocals join in for some beautiful harmonies, introducing a warm sense of cosiness in the second verse. An understated chorus lets it all out and the track eventually builds to a powerful, layered close.

The track was born on a road trip from Atlanta, USA to the musical Mecca of Nashville.

“Getting to write in person with Joe after a long online friendship and having collaborated remotely on his song Barricade was such a gift,” Keller says. “I remember sitting by the fireplace in that backyard in Nashville song writing with one of my favourite people and feeling so grateful. And I love this song and it’s journey, to give a space to doubts in this one has helped me embrace the path I’m on more fully. I’m happy that I get to say that I wouldn’t want to be anyone else but me.”

Written by Keller and Pope, production came from Pope and Dominic Romano. Someone Else features drums by Cameron Womak and violin by Maia Frankowski. It was mastered by Sam Moses.

The single is out now and you can give it a listen below.
