Hailing from Bolton, Guri Yeller are the Northern duo of decade-long friends Matthew Banton and Harry Paterson. Having featured on our blog before, they’re back with a new double-A side.

While our previous share Seeing Double gave us synth-led electronica, Guri Yeller’s two new tracks sees them take a sonic deviation into shoegaze. Inspired by artists like My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive, as well as contemporary bands such as LSD and the Search for God, Black Shoes and Sister Mercy show us the versatility the act have to offer.

Black Shoes gives us atmospheric post-rock with layers of edgy feedback tempered by soft vocals. Things build through the first verse, arriving at a soul-stirring chorus in which the vocals are at their most passionate.

Sister Misery strips things back a little for a contemplative follow up. Jangly guitar set the early tone before a swaying rhythm comes in. There’s a dreamlike quality to it that makes it completely immersive. A lushness permeates through each note, especially in a layered, climactic finish.

Now seems to be a great time to be getting into Guri Yeller and you’ll soon have a chance to catch them live. They’re planning a few performances in the North of England before the end of 2025.
