Paying homage to Brazilian revolutionaries, Rectangle shows an evolution of Citizens of YEAH!!!‘s sound.
By Graeme Smith
Rectangle is melancholic, meditative alternative rock, delivered through raw acoustic instruments and soulful vocals. The Newcastle-born band set out to recreate the sound of a live band with this single and it shows. Memorable riffs engage before the track arrives at a jangly, lingering finish.
There’s a depth to its lyrics that has you taking notice, speaking of war and revolution. For the single, the band drew inspiration from Steve Albini as well as iconic albums such as Things We Lost In The Fire by Low and There Is A Light That Never Goes Out by the Smiths.
The track teases their upcoming third album which we await details of with bated breath.
Rectangle is out now and you can give it a listen below.
