The latest project from former frontman of Artificial Pleasure and Night Engine, Flip Beckmann has catapulted onto our pages for the first time with his debut single.
By Graeme Smith
Doppelganger opens with fiery whispers before the track gets offbeat and funky through a nuanced and textured post-punk instrumental and expressive vocals. I’ve not heard much like it; it’s delightfully surreal as it unfolds, taking us in unexpected directions.
Lyrically, it’s even more surreal, telling to story of its hero in a manic state where he believes his lookalike, actor Damian Lewis, is trying to bring about his downfall.
Flip Beckmann’s debut EP 10 English Songs for Acoustic Guitar is set for release this autumn.
Doppelganger is out now, and you can listen to it below.
