Claire Morales releases perfectly imperfect new single

Capturing a rare introspective and quiet moment in an otherwise epic and energetic journey of an album, Low is the latest single from Claire Morales.

The single gives us trembling vocals that go from low to high just as the emotion of the lyrics do. They’re lyrics that cut deep – simple and impactful – as Morales pours her heart out. The instrumental feels classic, combining folk and rock with perfection.

Which is ironic because Denton, Texas, USA-based Morales wrote the song as a counterpoint to the idea of perfection. “I wrote this song to help others to feel less isolated and less ashamed of who they are and what they feel,” she says. “It is my own little attempt to shatter the idea that you need to be flawless in order to receive love and be worthy of the life you want.

“As a recovering perfectionist, it’s also just a reminder that perfection is boring and not even real. It is this phantom you chase that robs you of the joy of our flawed, messy, beautiful existence. It takes you away from the present moment and keeps you down.”

The track is taken from her album, Lost in the Desert, and Morales says she almost didn’t include Low on the album.

“It almost didn’t make it onto the album because it is such a departure in tone from the other songs, but as I was writing the story of Lost in the Desert, I realized how important a moment like this was to the overall arc,” she says. “Lowness is a part of the journey, and to pretend it isn’t is to deny something fundamental and deeply human. And even though this is a slower more intimate song than many on the album, I think there is a kind of quiet power in its vulnerability.”

Lost In The Desert is set for release on 19 August 2025. Low is out now, and you can listen to it below.
