Discovery: With a song about contradictions, Last Relapse return like they’ve never been away

We love a comeback. Last Relapse’s has been thirteen years in the making.

By Graeme Smith

We’ve seen a few on these pages in recent times – Toronto, Canada’s fxrrvst, singer-songwriter Shara Strand, Britpoppers Giant Killers, and Andy Yorke’s The Unbelievable Truth to name a few.

Fair play to the Atlanta, USA-based Last Relapse. It must be hard to get back into it have such a long hiatus, but they’re showing no signs of rustiness.

Their new single Everyone Dances Outside of Their Bodies broods through a pensive opening before becoming more urgent with a snare drumbeat. When the lyrics arrive, they’re strikingly poetic. They hold the ear as the track works its way up through its melancholic rock gears.

The track comes naturally to a passionate crescendo where the band’s might is on full display.

“This song lives where contradiction becomes motion,” say the band. “It’s the moment you notice your inner mirror – two forces pulling in opposite directions – and you learn to move with both.”

Fans won’t have to wait so long for more new music. A five-track EP is scheduled for release 14 November 2025.

Everyone Dances Outside of Their Bodies is out now, and you can listen to it below.
