Local singer-songwriter Oliver Pinder has been all over my radar of late.
By Graeme Smith
Four singles of his has passed through our pages in the last year and a bit, and I even had the pleasure of watching him and his band perform live at The Fulford Arms in support of Youth Sector last month.
He’s got a presence, and an articulate way of words in his songwriting. His tracks often dwell on the nature of love, and his latest is no exception.
Millionaire is a playful love letter to his fiancé, but it eschews the expected traits of a love song by reinventing it as a bright, driving rock song. Edgy riffs pair with stirring drums in an instrumental that doesn’t let up.
“I wanted to write something that just felt massive,” Pinder shares. “Not complicated, not sad – just pure joy. It’s about the kind of love that makes you feel untouchable, like you’ve already won the lottery.”
Pinder’s voice coos softly as it paints a picture of dreams and escapades. The imagery meanders between the wishful and the relatable, really creating a world. Listening with headphones, I really got lost in the track.
Originally from Bradford and now based in Wakefield, Oliver Pinder is one of the shining stars of the local scene. We’re fans, and we’re not the only ones. He’s a grafter with a story to tell. What more can you want?
Millionaire is out now, and you can listen to it below. Pinder’s next EP, too late to tell you, is set for release 21 November 2025.
