Blind Man’s Daughter, led by Ashley Wolfe, is an incredibly unique act who has been featuring on our pages since 2023.
By Graeme Smith
Wolfe combines an impressive five-octave vocal range with a unique musical perspective which brings together rock with some unexpected other genres.
Our coverage of her started with single Kyhell, which knocked my socks off through its punchiness and vibrancy. Following that was an album, Sundressed, and the obsession was complete.
More recently we heard Only Human which dwelt on themes of justice, identity, and compassion and now Blind Man’s Daughter have released their latest single, All I Need.
It’s a track that sees Wolfe venture into the world of pop recalling the likes of Dua Lipa, Selena Gomez, and Jessie Ware. An easy groove greets us in the intro, channelling Latin influences.
When Wolfe’s distinctive vocals come in, we are left in no doubt that the track is a Blind Man’s Daughter’s one. An anthemic chorus sticks in the mind and shows off her vocal range.
Throughout the beat never stops, urging us to dance. Wolfe is quick to point out that the track is more than a dance banger though. “It’s me taking back my own power through rhythm and motion,” she explains. “It’s a reminder that creating is the cure.”
Lyrically, it has an empowering message, giving us some fiery, relatable motifs and catharsis. “All I Need is about letting go of wishful thinking,” Wolfe says. “It’s me deciding to stop hoping for something outside my control and start trusting what I can make with my own hands.”
A big, lingering finish seals the deal and has you reaching for the replay button.
Over the past couple of years, Blind Man’s Daughter has cemented itself as a project that’s a force to be reckoned with. The world is catching on. Wolfe has a growing Spotify audience, a considerable back catalogue that includes three albums, and the ear of some important online tastemakers.
A new concept album, Architect of Devotion, is set for release before the end of 2025. After that, Wolfe plans to release new singles regularly right through next year and beyond. The future is looking bright for Blind Man’s Daughter.
You can keep up to date with the project via its website, and on Facebook, Spotify, Instagram, X, YouTube, and TikTok.
