Discovery: the trans-Atlantic big riverz bring modern country pop melancholy

A new, trans-Atlantic, alt-country-pop project, big riverz have caught my attention thanks to their second single, Running.

By Graeme Smith

Consisting of former Jesus and His Judgemental Father members Sophia Hicks and Sarah Danger alongside Canadian author and activist Rae Spoon, big riverz was formed across Montreal, London, and our very own Leeds.

Running blends together traditional country elements with modern pop and hip-hop to create a fresh and exciting sound that captures you right from the first few bars. The soft and melancholic vocals add some emotional depth to the track, coming to their own during a punchy, timeless chorus that recalls the likes of Sheryl Crow.

The single is out now, and you can listen to it below.
