Until now, we’ve known Leeds-based singer-songwriter Molly Rymer as a solo act. Her latest single, Lie, sees her expanding her lineup as well as her sound.
By Graeme Smith
Her most ambitious track to date, Lie is awash in a swirl of cinematic and classical elements backing a heartbreaking love story. As ever, Rymer’s vocals shine, creating the emotional anchor of the track around which the six-piece instrumental rotates. The composition rises and falls dramatically, finally arriving at a memorable crescendo.
Lyrically, the single takes on the topic of lying to oneself to stay close to someone, a relatable idea that we’ve all experienced at some point. The emotion is brought to life through the two meanings of the word ‘lie.’
Rymer is a growing presence on the local scene. I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing her for our podcast, and she’s been backed by the likes of Launchpad Music, Help Musicians, The Dunwells, and Zach Lount (King No-One).
Additionally, she sold out a London show in December 2025 at Green Note, meaning her appeal isn’t just limited to Yorkshire.
If you want to keep up to date with all she’s doing, you can follow her on Facebook, Spotify, Soundcloud, Bandcamp, YouTube, Instagram and TikTok.
Lie is out now, and you can listen to it below.
