An artist who is new to us, it seems only appropriate that we’re discovering James Crowley through his latest single Co-Pilot, an exploration of new love.

Here’s hoping our relationship with him stands the test of time. Based on this early evidence, things look promising.

Co-Pilot opens with a driving beat and looping, ponderous guitar. Crowley’s soft and poignant vocals come in, joined by a lively percussive arrangement before finally finding electronic overlayers in the chorus. It’s an unusual approach for the singer-songwriter genres and the combination is intoxicating and makes us as listener feel every soulful word of the lyrics.

For the single, and his upcoming Imprint EP, London-based Crowley teamed up with Wolf Alice’s Joel Amey as cowriter as well as Mike Horner (Franz Ferdinand, Hot Wax, Deaf Havana) as producer and that proven expertise comes through strongly. Co-Pilot is beautifully polished while staying relatable and approachable.
