Carl Kammeyer hit our radar in 2023 thanks to his indie-pop number One. The track piqued Jane’s interest enough to interview him about it.

A few years have gone by, and Kammeyer has been creating music out of his Bethel Island, California, USA-based home studio, untroubled by external pressures and able to craft the tunes he wants, acting as producer as well as songwriter.

There’s a soulful elegance to his style and his latest, Since You Been Gone, is no exception.

A pensive beat and lingering guitar lick sets the song up before a driving electronic rhythm kicks in. Since You Been Gone is a breakup song, so expect highly charged lyrics and a touch of chagrin. Yet, Kammeyer elevates things through the genuine emotion in his smooth vocals and the vibrant sense of catharsis in the arrangement. He wrote the song based on his own experience.
