Talented York-based artists are coming together for Arts York’s first exhibition, Arts York Presents: Inspired in York. The exhibition runs between 16 and 22 October at Plastic Fortune Studios, in the newly rejuvenated arts and community hub that is Stonebow House. Things kick off with a launch party on 16 October.
Among those involved are illustrator Ellen Stubbings, stained glass artist Elise Bikker, illustrator Sophie Linney, steel sculptor Kimberley Bennett and painter Selina Eaton.
The exhibition runs from 16 to 22 October at Plastic Fortune Studios, on the third floor of Stonebow House. There will be an opening night on October 16 from 7pm until 9pm, when visitors will be able to meet the artists and talk about the work on display.
Inspired in York is the first exhibition curated by our good friends Arts York, a local news website focussed on the city’s arts and culture scene. The site reports on film, art and design, performing arts and music.
Arts York editor Danielle Barge, who will also be exhibiting, said of the event: “there are artists from a variety of disciplines involved in this exhibition, all drawing inspiration from York in different ways.
“Their work could be inspired directly by an event, a place or a person in York, or something that came into the artist’s head one afternoon in the city – what classes as ‘inspired in York’ is up to the artists’ interpretations.”
“York has a lot of talented, creative people and I wanted Arts York to show off what the city’s arts and culture scene has to offer. Running this exhibition is a great way to bring together brilliant local artists and give them an opportunity to showcase their work.”

The entry fee to the exhibition is ‘pay-what-you-like’ and runs daily from noon to 7pm, except on opening night.
