The five lucky local support artists have now been selected to perform at this year’s York Fake Festival on Saturday 28th May at The Knavesmire, in celebration of the 10th anniversary of Fake Festivals.
Laura Kindelan, Faux Pas, The Blueprints, Stonewater and A Joker’s Rage have all been hand-picked by Dave O’Hara, licensee for York Fake Festival, to perform on the main stage at this year’s event.
“It is a lengthy task selecting support bands for the festivals, and support submissions start rolling in from September 2015 onwards,” explains Dave. “We are very fortunate to receive hundreds of applications to perform on our main stage, and we do listen to each submission. There is no set criteria for choosing the artists, we just have a listen to them, check out their social media, and then decide if their sound is right for our event.”
“We do however like to ensure that the artist is professional, as we take the quality of our entertainment very seriously, and we do not want the crowds to be disappointed. We feel we get the right balance of original and covers artists which mixes the day up, and also gives up and coming bands a chance to showcase their music, in the hope that any media attending the event might pick up on them. We have had the likes of NME Magazine, Capital FM, and various other radio stations attend our festivals on a regular basis, so it is a great platform for new music.”
A Joker’s Rage will be warming up the stage for the main tributes, with their lively mix of songs. One of the fastest growing bands in the North of England, they have a winning mix of powerhouse rock, hugely memorable tunes, and describe their stage presence as ‘not unlike being trampled on by a herd of dinosaurs’.
York’s Stonewater is a 90’s influenced riff rock band with shades of Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots. Be prepared to be taken back to the grunge days with their original songs of infectious grooves and powerful, roaring vocals.
The Blueprints will get you singing along with their guitar-led indie pop which is influenced by The Beatles, The Kinks, Tom Petty and Ryan Adams.
After a successful debut year, Faux Pas from York are now ready for a crack at festivals. Their high energy performance consists of their own brand of raw, gritty original material, sure to please the indie crowd.
Opening this year’s York Fake Festival is Laura Kindelan. Laura plays easy listening jazzy pop and will be sure to entertain you with her friendly, engaging stage presence, whilst playing a mixture of original songs and covers.
