In this playlist we journey into the elusive world of jazz and swing. Admittedly, they can be some difficult genres to get into, but I’m hoping some of our selections will help break down the barriers.

There’s a definite York connection here too. Two of the acts featured have recently stopped by to play York venues and one of the tracks features our very own Alanna Lyes (you may know her as the front woman of Grinny Grandad.) Just for a bit of something different and fun, I’ve also included Italy’s Canis.
Robocobra Quartet kick things off with You’ll Wade. You might have caught them recently at The Basement Jazz Club. The Belfast boys combine jazz arrangements to spoken word poetry to great effect.
The aforementioned Canis then gets things bouncing with Luglio, a latin piano sensation before Wolfgang Lohr and Alanna Lyes keep things funky with recent release Upside Down.
We finish things off with Dinosaur and their track Forgive, Forget. Dinosaur also recently came to York, lighting up The Crescent with their downbeat, experimental sound.
