Interview: Vanilla Sugar

We recently had the opportunity to chat to a bunch of bands from the Rogue PR label. Our latest one was with Jessica Perry of eclectic American electronic act Vanilla Sugar where we found out about upcoming debut album, musical influences and her love for KoRn.

Interview by Jane Howkins

How is 2019 treating you so far?
2019 has been great! I am currently working on my new album in the studio, as well as touring the US in October. I shot two music videos this year in Houston, TX.

Have you released any music so far this year? If so, what can you tell us about that?
I haven’t released any new tracks this year… yet…. but I may be releasing something soon!

Are you working on any new music at the moment? What are you working on, and when will it be released?
I am working on my debut album, called, She. I’m so excited. It’s been a long time in the making. It will be out Jan 2020.

Have you got any upcoming tours planned? If so, where are you playing and where are you looking forward to going most?
I do! I have a small Texas tour planned in October. I will be touring the album in January in the US, starting in Texas and ending in California. I am looking forward to each city!

Who/what has influenced you the most as musicians?
KoRn inspired me to play guitar, I love the heaviness of their music. I am also inspired by the electronic sounds of The Knife, The Prodigy, Grimes, Mindless Self Indulgence, and Sleigh Bells.

What have you been listening to recently that you can recommend to our readers? The new KoRn album! It’s very good and heavy.

Why do you think people should pick up one of your records or come and see you live, and what can people expect from one of your shows?
The new album is totally different from anything I’ve released before. I’m very happy with it and excited to share it with everyone. Each song has its own unique personality. At a show, people can expect an extremely high energy performance, with a light show to match. I am the kind of person who believes in putting on a full show for people; lights, music, stage props, the whole thing.
