Slow Dress are an acoustic duo from Boston, USA whose bittersweet new track Stew combines melancholy with hope.
By Graeme Smith
Stew starts with a downbeat feel. A steady drumbeat and wispy electro-acoustic guitar accompany singer Katie Soloman’s haunting vocals. Then, the chorus drops and the song reaches a different plane. Instantly memorable, it encapsulates the best of modern American folk, reminiscent of acts such as Courtney Marie Andrews and Big Thief.
Though it’s name and lyrics suggests this is perhaps an ode to food, the track is really an exploration of death and the reliving of past experiences. The message is, live while you’re alive. Check out Stew below.
