New Music: Coracle – Departure

Coracle is a modern jazz project from Leeds-born producer Johnathan Doherty. I first discovered his music last autumn through his track Naoshima Island. I’m pleased to say he’s back on the blog with new release Departure.

By Graeme Smith

Departure is all about the Summer. It was written in an airport departure lounge in Shanghai so it’s no wonder musically it invokes getting on a plane and flying somewhere for a holiday (or perhaps I’ve just been in lockdown too long!) The main percussive melody is joined at time by exotic horns and lively handclaps, really making the listener feel as if they are at the heart of the party.

Johnathan is not so much a local boy anymore, as he is now based in Tokyo, but I think we can still claim him. Check out Departure below.
