Leeds trio The Calls have released their latest single I Just Thought I’d Say, a melancholic dreamscape and reflection on the state of the world.

It’s been a couple of years since we last featured The Calls on York Calling. 2018 felt like such an optimistic time in relative terms. The band had just released their mini-album The Night The World Stood Still and had launched it in, of all places, Dortmund in Germany.
Fast forward to 2020 and I Just Thought I’d Say feels very much of the zeitgeist. It’s a melancholic meditation on the anger inherent in the world, being forever stoked to the point that reasonable discourse is drowned out. It’s a demand for a voice, hoping upon hope that it isn’t drowned out by the cacophony.
You can watch the video, featuring performance of the band mixed with archive footage, below. Keep an eye on our podcast too. We’ll be chatting to Tom from the band in the next few weeks.
