Sprints are an Irish alternative rock outfit who I discovered around this time last year. They have come belting back onto my radar with psychological new single Drones.
By Graeme Smith
Drones, as frontwoman Karla Chubb explains, is about struggles with imposter syndrome. Sprints occupy a space within a genre which is male-dominated and can be difficult for a female musician who constantly feels she has to prove herself. To me the lyrics speak a little of envy and frustration too – the feeling we all have that everyone around us seems to have it easier than we do.
Either way, Drones is a post-punk banger and it’s Karla’s voice and songwriting that really sets Sprints apart from other bands. The uncanny video will have to mesmerised. You can check it out below.
