It’s been well over two years since we last covered American country singer songwriter John John Brown. When I first discovered him back in 2018, I was impressed with his storytelling and lyrical voice. Fast forward to 2020 and he’s done it again with new track On Black Friday I Met Jesus.

As you might deduce from the title, On Black Friday I Met Jesus takes on two staples of American culture – consumerism and Christianity. There feels a personal touch to the narration two, or at least the imagined narrator, with confessions of schizophrenia and confusion.
It’s the lyrics that shine, with imagery aplenty, but John’s delivery is smooth and charming too. In the live performance of the video, he seems in his element. You can check it out below.
