I last covered Korean pop group (G)I-DLE when they released their summer smash DUMDi DUMDi last year. Now they’re back on the blog with an atmospheric, fiery new track, HWAA.

I think the reason K-pop has taken the world by storm in recent years is because of the genre’s tendency for insanely catchy melodies and energetic performances. (G)I-DLE is no exception and the girl group brings a range of influences to their tracks, including Latin and hip hop touches.
HWAA is an image-rich track, lyrically built around an extended metaphor of fire (in Korean hwaa means anger or spark). It’s brash, bold and triumphant. You can check out the lyric video for the English version below.
