I’ve featured American bedroom pop artist Kowloon a few times on the blog now but each new track still feels fresh to me. His latest, released today, is called Hollywood is Under Water.
By Graeme Smith
Kowloon’s signature easy-listening style is still there, drawing inspiration from the ’80s new wave and artists like Peter Gabriel and Talking Heads. He applies it to the modern state of societal decay. “Hollywood is under water, who will tell me how to dress?” he asks in the chorus, mimicking a transmission from some point after the apocalypse. To hear such dark imagery sung so gently is oddly reassuring.
If you didn’t catch my previous reviews of Kowloon’s music, now is the perfect time to discover him. Check out Hollywood is Under Water below.
