Shima is a Japanese-American artist who I first discovered last summer. At the time, she’d quit her job as a software engineer to pursue music full time so it’s great to see she’s still at it. Her new track is a collaboration with Calica and it’s called Don’t Wanna Die Young.

Shima’s style is easy, breezy funk that explores the ups and downs of life. Don’t Wanna Die Young is about a toxic relationship with someone whose life is an eternal party, and the realisation that you want more from life. Shima delivers her story with a catchy chorus and verses in both English and Japanese.
Don’t Wanna Die Young is a great extension of Shima’s growing catalogue of music. You can check it out below. Personally, I can’t wait to hear what she does next.
