Kai Straw is an American R&B artist who I first featured on the blog back in June last year. His new track Bleeding Out In The 415 is tense with a sense of sadness and violence.
By Graeme Smith
The track emphasises the blues side of rhythm and blues. It’s mournful, soulful, a plea to a higher power. The use of imagery is so visceral it’s arresting and it’s sense of place (415 is a zip code in the bay area of San Francisco) is enrapturing. Just like Enemy, which I shared previously, the instrumentals are stripped back and effective. Musically, I was reminded of Cold War Kids and Rag’N’Bone Man while listening.
It’s another impressive track from an artist who has only been pursuing music full-time since losing his job because of the pandemic. I look forward to hearing what he does next.
