New Music: Morrison Reed – Old Shady Motel

Back in September, I had the pleasure of reviewing Morrison Reed’s album Spirit Haus. A concept album, it told the story of a drug-fuelled night on New Years Eve. I enjoyed it so much, I was over the moon to see he had new music out. His latest is called Old Shady Motel.

By Graeme Smith

Old Shady Motel has a similar storytelling approach. Through spoken-word verses, Morrison brings to life the tale of a nocturnal rendezvous between an escort and her middle-aged client. Musically, he draws on influence from jazz, psych and avant-garde, with layers of percussion, scuzz and distortion.

Based in Sydney, Australia, Morrison is the perfect example of where a musician can take their sound when they throw out the rulebook and make something entirely unique. You can check out Old Shady Motel below.
