Discovery: Almahata

Finding their home somewhere between indie synth-pop and folk, Almahata is a Folkstone-based project that first started in April last year. Their latest single is called What If Now We All Change?

It’s a track that starts subtly but grows. Gentle electronic notes mix with acoustic percussion and strings. Haunting ethereal vocals float over everything and there is a message of concern mixed with hope. By the time of the first chorus, the song hits its full stride, epic and emotive.

Though new, Almahata are already getting plenty of attention. Their debut single was playlisted by BBC Introducing for three consecutive weeks and they’re about to set off on a UK tour supporting Brighton-based artist Bess Atwell. I predict a bright future for them.
