Anna Westin is a British neofolk singer songwriter whose beautiful and unique new piece Incense Ascending caught my attention.
By Graeme Smith
Incense Ascending is quite unlike anything I’ve heard before. One part choral chant, one part experimental ambience, it feels simultaneously classical and timeless. The vocal harmonies are positively enchanting. They’ll have you hooked from the first few sung notes.
The track is taken from Anna’s forthcoming album LEV, which is set for release next month. For the album she was inspired by the Irish, choral and Swedish folk songs she grew up with, as well as artists like Julianna Barwick and Lingua Ignota. It all combines into something that feels truly incomparable. You just have to listen for yourself. Check out Incense Ascending below.
