Ingrid St-Pierre is a Canadian neoclassical composer who has just released her fifth album Ludmilla. Taken from the album is the track Les émerveilleurs, which is accompanied by a thoroughly absorbing stop-motion animated video.
By Graeme Smith
Working together, the track and video tell the story of lost hope, melancholy and isolation. In the video we see a retired superhero living next door to a young girl who is her biggest fan. When the girl breaks her doll, the scene is set for the hero to come out of retirement. Musically, the story is told through a gentle piano melody and hummed vocals which add a depth and human touch. It’s all beautifully done.
The album Ludmilla is out now in all the usual places, and you can check out the video for Les émerveilleurs below.
