New Music: Carey Clayton – Zen Garden

Carey Clayton is a Los Angeles, USA-based alternative folk singer songwriter who I first featured on the blog last summer through his captivating album Gradually, Suddenly. Now he’s back with a new single. It’s called Zen Garden.

For the track, and the forthcoming EP from which it is taken, Carey has teamed up with cellist Little Kruta. The pair bring a richness to their sound, bringing elements of rock, classical and traditional folk together to create something that doesn’t sit comfortably in any genre. What it certainly is, though, is deeply atmospheric. The composition dips and dives, always keeping you guessing what’s coming next, and the vocal harmonies bring with them a sense of bliss.

Carey is a former contributing member of Great Good Fine OK, while Little Kruta has worked with the likes of The Eagles, Gabriel Garzón-Montano, and Kimbra. The two have used their musical experience to create something truly magical in Zen Garden. You can give it a listen below.
