New Music: book NOT brooke – Popsicle

Book NOT brooke is the performing name of Nashville, USA-based alternative rock singer songwriter Brooke Vespoli. Influenced by the likes of Lana Del Rey, St. Vincent and Billie Eilish, she’s re-caught my attention through her new track Popsicle.

Popsicle opens with a simple guitar riff and Brooke’s isolated vocals. She delivers lyrics that are rich with metaphor, speaking of encouragement and optimism. As the track progresses, the instrumental arrangement grows, hitting its rock stride from the second verse. What remains constant, though, is Brooke’s charming and expressive vocal delivery.

This is the first track we’ve shared of hers under this performing name, but last year I ran the rule over her EP Egoic Illusion, released under a different name at the time. The name change does seem to herald a change in style, but what hasn’t been lost is the inventiveness and charisma. Popsicle is a must-listen. You can check it out below.
