An Triangles is a Boston, USA-based alternative rock singer songwriter who I’ve featured before on the blog. Back in March, I discovered the multi-instrumentalist, whose real name is Doug Poppe, thanks to his debut single Ridicule. Now he’s back with a new one. It’s called Mother on You.
By Graeme Smith
While Ridicule leaned into the rock side of Doug’s sound, Mother on You is a little bit more stripped-back. It opens with lonesome electric guitar played against a backdrop of the voices of children at play. Doug’s vocals come in, pleading and compelling. Lyrically it recalls a simpler time of life, where disputes were resolved by calling in our parents. As the track progresses, the instrumental textures increase, with unexpected electronic overtones. It really is a feast for the ears.
Mother on You is taken from Doug’s forthcoming debut album Triangular Life. You can check it out below.
