Emmi Maaria is a London-based, Finnish alternative pop artist who I first featured on the blog in May through her striking debut single I Move Deeper Wading Into The Waters. It was the first part of a three-track story and now the second part is out. It’s called I Am The Whisper Of Blood.
By Graeme Smith
The track opens with urgent strings which shortly blend in with electronic bass, creating a sound that is quite unique. Emmi’s vocals are expressive and folky as they deliver lyrics that are pregnant with poetry. It’s apt given the track was inspired by Edith Södergran’s poem Vierge Moderne. It’s a piece that speaks of women’s rights, a fight that has been going on longer than we often remember.
When sharing I Move Deeper Wading Into The Waters, I said I was keen to hear the next two parts of the story. I’ve not been left disappointed by part two. You can check out I Am The Whisper Of Blood below.
