New Music: The Confederation – Tailspin

The Confederation are a Coventry-based soul and jazz collective who have been featured on this blog a few times now. We’ve been impressed with their atmospheric arrangements and storytelling lyrics, and their latest is no exception. It’s called Tailspin.

By Graeme Smith

Tailspin opens with some funky wah-wah guitar that immediately transports you to Jimi Hendrix’s world of psych. The track then develops into a soundscape that’s more akin to gospel, with mingling vocals and a sense of ecclesiastical triumph. The lyrics speak of love, but there’s a fresh take. Tailspin speaks of its unpredictability. It’s a feeling that’s wonderfully recreated.

The Confederation are attempting to bring back the feeling of golden age musicians and I think they’re nailing it. You can check out Tailspin below.
