Ruiz! is a Sheffield-based experimental artist who we’ve featured before on the blog through his infectious track 5 Seconds. Now he’s back with a new piece of psychedelia. It’s called Falling.

Falling channels a diverse range of influences from post-punk, ’60 psych and indie rock and roll. It’s got a driving tempo and electronic instrumentals that are a master-class of understated maximalism. The vocals are expressive and the lyrics are poetic but I think it’s the sheer uniqueness of Ruiz!’s sound that mostly makes me love it. He’s out here doing his own thing and there’s nothing better than that.

Falling is taken from a collection of songs that Ruiz! recorded during Lockdown with only a laptop and some live instrumentals at his disposal. You can check out the video below.
