New Music: Marc Bird – Mother Mother

Marc Bird is an acoustic folk singer songwriter based not too far away from us in Hebden Bridge. He’s just released his new track that intertwines his own story with that of the towns of Measand and Mardale Green, both flooded to accommodate Haweswater Dam in the Lake District. It’s called Mother Mother.

Mother Mother has a lively but haunting feel about it. From the opening vocalisations, there’s something that instantly grabs you. The scene is perfectly set for a tale steeped in imagery and emotion, but what I was really taken with was the quality of Marc’s vocals, expressive and sympathetic, they’re a joy to listen to.

The track is the second single to be released from Marc’s forthcoming album Parting, which is set to be released later this year. You can give Mother Mother a listen below.
