Cynthia Hamar is an Alberta, Canada-born alternative country artist who has a sound similar to that of Tom Waits and Feist. Her latest track brings with it reggae and groove undertones and it’s called Light A Fire.

Light A Fire opens with a plodding rhythm and expressively-plucked guitar. The star of the show has to be Cynthia’s vocals, though. They come in for the first verse, laidback, charismatic and thoroughly absorbing. The track builds to a bright chorus that urges you to sing along. It’s beautiful stuff.

Though new to us, Cynthia has four studio albums already under her belt, and another soon on the way. Aside from recording and performing music, she’s completing a Bachelors of Music and has already received her fair share of plaudits. She’s definitely one to watch.
