New Music: Evie Balfe – Toxicity

Evie Balfe is a dream pop singer songwriter now based in London, but originally from a little closer to home – the other side of the Humber Estuary in Lincolnshire. She first came to my attention earlier this year through her moody track Wearing A Crown, and now she’s back with a new one exploring her struggles with sexuality. It’s called Toxicity.

Toxicity is the kind of song that draws you in from the very beginning. Stripped-back keys open things and provide simple accompaniment for Evie’s compelling vocals. Evie is bisexual and the lyrics speak of the struggles with homophobia the LGBT+ community still endure. It’s powerful stuff.

Evie channels influences including London Grammar and Holly Humberstone in her work, but her story is uniquely hers. You can check out Toxicity below.
