Zoe Guigeuno is a based half a world away on Vancouver Island, Canada but her new single Queen of My Domain has traversed the thousands of miles to come to my attention and I knew I had to share it.

The track was originally written as a Secret Santa present for Zoe’s aunt, and its lyrics were constructed from her life story and bits of poetry hidden in her emails to Zoe. Zoe’s aunt is that rare creature, a female truck driver and the song speaks of female autonomy, independence and empowerment.
Musically it walks the line between folk and rock. There’s a slow, deliberate feel to its rhythm section, and there are licks of country guitar. Zoe’s vocals are wonderfully smooth and emotive – truly the star of the show.
Queen of My Domain features on Zoe’s new album We Were Radar Stations, also out now. You can give the single a listen below.
