Picnic Lightning are a Fort Worth, USA-based rock band that has featured before on our blog, but not since 2020 when Jane ran the rule over their track Six Feet Under. Thankfully, they’ve made it back our radar thanks to their new track Youth Group.

If you discovered rock for the first time in the late ’90s and early ’00s, you’re going to find a lot to love about Youth Group. It’s bombastic, with flavours of Arcade Fire nestled alongside heavier rock outfits like Japandroids, Queens of The Stone Age and The White Stripes. Youth Group feels big but its lyrical story is intimate, rich with nostalgia and a touch of anger.

Formed in 2013 by Thomas Edmond Ketchersid, Cole Alvin Watkins, John Lennox Cope and Cameron Joseph Navarro, it feels like Picnic Lightning might be approaching their breakthrough moment. You can check out Youth Group below.
