Ishani is a London-based singer songwriter and producer who we’ve been following on this blog since 2020, and last year I was personally introduced to her unique brand of trip-hop through her track Perfect Life. Now’s she back with a powerful new video that explores themes of mental health and violence against women. It’s called Powertripp.

Powertripp opens with a moody, lingering synth note that instantly sets the scene for the dark, alternative pop that’s to come. Ishani’s expressive vocals deliver poetic lyrics, delicately ethereal against the rumbling backdrop. The mood is just so perfectly rendered. Fans of Grimes will find a lot to love about Powertripp.

The video was directed by Yolanda Barker alongside an all-female crew which provides a wonderful meta-narrative about how the answer lies in solidarity. You can give the video a watch below.
