Nicole Saphos is an alternative and indie rock artist based in Philadelphia, USA. She and her band have just hit my radar thanks to their new single, exploring the dark world of a controlling relationship. It’s called Keepin’ Eyes.

Opening with a moody bass lick, the macabre atmosphere of the piece is immediately set. Building on it is jazzy guitar and ’60s rock and roll sensibilities, and Nicole’s compelling vocals, which bring to mind the likes of Fiona Apple and Regina Spektor.

Born in Los Angeles, Nicole’s musical prowess has opened doors for her coast to coast. She was the first songwriter invited to the prestigious residency programme at the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Maine and has a score of grants to her name.
