Charo Galura is a London-based alternative pop artist who has just caught my attention with her single A Woman Like Me. A reflection on gender-identity, and the boxes women are often forced into, it’s a track that’s created from her own personal story.

Charo grew up in a conservative Filipino family that never accepted her for who she is. Things got so bad that her mother kicked her out of her home and disowned her. Rather than letting that moment define her, Charo has spent the time since affirming her self and channelling it into her music.
A Woman Like Me is rich in empowering messages, and fresh and interesting experimental pop sensibilities. It flips the established narrative that sees women often described in context of men, instead celebrating the gender for its own unique characteristics.
Charo is an artist with a message that’s she’s not afraid to share, and a voice that doesn’t hide her uniqueness. I’m exicted to hear more from her and I hope you will be too. You can check out A Woman Like Me below.
