Craig Gould is a Burton-on-Trent-based folk singer songwriter who has featured on the blog a couple of times before, but not since the end of 2021. I’m glad to say he’s back with a new track and fundraiser for the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM). It’s called Out of the Woods.

CALM is a charity specifically focussing on men’s mental health, something close to Craig’s heart and a theme of his past music. Out of the Woods is no exception, ruminating on the turmoil that mental illness brings but also the joy of recovery. Musically it matches that dichotomy, with lowdown early verses leading into a bright and climactic finish. Lyrically, it’s powerful, stuffed with imagery but not ducking the hard truths.
Out of the Woods will feature on Craig’s debut album, set for release on 14 April. Craig will be playing at Filey Folk Festival the same month, so a perfect chance for local readers to catch him live.
