Dexter Dine is an “apartment rocker” based in New York City, USA. He’s just hit my radar thanks to his pastiche of a range of genres and influences. It’s called Intertidal.
By Graeme Smith
Intertidal opens with an eccentric melody which is joined by an arrangement that sits somewhere on the spectrum between folk and hip-hop. Dexter’s vocals feel indie rock or grunge in their delivery. The track then breaks down into some jazzy electronica. It’s all so wonderfully uncategorisable.
The track is taken from Dexter’s latest album Flood, which was released in January. The album offers off a range of quirky experimentation inspired by the likes of Yasuki Shimizu and Hailu Mergia. The album’s definitely well worth a listen and you can check out Intertidal below.
