Discovery: Abby Dormer

Abby Dormer is a New York City, USA-based folk singer songwriter who has just hit my radar thanks to the first single from her upcoming debut EP Apologue. It’s called Fig Tree.

By Graeme Smith

Fig Tree was inspired by a passage from Sylvia Plath’s The Bell Jar and has a suitably literary feel about it. Warm, rustic and poetic, it’s beautifully written, and performed through an array of instrumentals that range from the familiar to the exotic. Fans of Joni Mitchell or Joan Baez will find a lot to love about it.

Written during the pandemic lockdown of 2020, its lyrics were driven by the feeling of being frozen in time that came with it. It truly is an accomplished debut and I strongly suspect there’s a lot more gold to come from Abby’s pen and voice. I can’t wait to hear more from her!
