New Music: Serena Clara – Nook

London-based alternative pop singer songwriter Serena Clara first hit my radar at the beginning of last year through her debut EP The Spiral. Now I’m pleased to welcome her back with another example of her unique “poetry pop”. It’s called Nook.

By Graeme Smith

The Spiral was all about working through past trauma, but Nook looks to the future. It certainly feels forward facing, with an Avant Garde approach to pop and a soundscape that revels in futurism. A moody opening first verse gives prominence to Serena’s lyrics and her expressive vocals, before we get an exciting explosion of sound in the chorus.

Nook is a must listen for fans of Kate Bush or Caroline Polachek. It’s more satisfying evidence of just how special Serena Clara’s music is. You can give the single a listen below.
