Tokyo, Japan-based alternative pop artist Sarina has featured on this blog once before. When I heard her track Utsu na Michi (Melancholy Roads) back in January, I was instantly enraptured by her sound and excited to hear more. So, when I saw she had a new one out, I just had to share it. It’s called Sometimes I Wanna Cry.
By Graeme Smith
You’d expect Sometimes I Wanna Cry to be a slow, sad song, but Sarina subverts expectations with vibrant pop rock. There’s a sense of catharsis about its explosive instrumental arrangement and heartfelt lyrics. It’s a must-listen for anyone who wants to get their emo on this afternoon.
Sarina, who’s signed to Sony Japan, is half Japanese and half Lebanese. She’s perhaps uniquely placed to reach an international audience and she sure knows how to write a catchy tune. Sometimes I Wanna Cry is yet more evidence of how much of a one to watch she is. You can give the track a listen below.
