Welsh singer songwriter Malan is becoming a familiar face on our blog. We first shared her music back in 2020 after discovering her debut single Busy Bee. More recently I ran the rule over her track Strawberry Kisses last Spring, and now she’s returned with new single Picking Petals.
By Graeme Smith
Picking Petals riffs on the childhood game of “they love me, they love me not” done while removing the petals of a flower. In the track, Malan turns the game into a sonic tale of uncertainty in love, beautifully rendered through her trademark jazz-infused R&B style.
Having already been featured by BBC Radio 1 and 6 Music, Malan’s already got the world at her feet. Her upcoming EP should cement her place as a rising star on the UK pop scene.
