Taylor Roche first featured on our blog last autumn as part of Jane’s Monthly Favourites round up. The pop singer songwriter is based in Auckland, New Zealand and has been blowing up on Tik Tok in his home country. His latest single better than home is my first chance to run the rule over his music.

Better than home is gentle indie pop, with a driving groove and emotive lyrics. What caught my attention the most was Taylor’s soulful and compelling vocals. They tell a story of wanting to get away, inspired by the feeling of being trapped during coronavirus lockdown.

Taylor is very much a modern pop star, coupling with his approachable pop with a strong presence on social media. Yet, there is also something timeless about the music he’s putting out. You can check out better than home for yourself below.
